Must-Have Items for the “Hot Mess” Mom

What Does the Hot Mess Mom Want?

These days, most of us are living in our yoga pants and spending a ton of time at home. It’s harder than ever to buy gifts for the women in your life, whether it’s Mother’s Day, their birthday, or a holiday gift.

This is a list of gifts that any woman would be thrilled to have, even those hardest to shop for. And, you may even add some items to your own wish list. I know I did.

1. Apple Watch

For twenty years, I didn’t wear a watch. Today, I feel naked without my Apple Watch. My favorite uses are pinging my phone (I do this daily and I don’t know how I ever found my phone before this), using either audio or scribble to write a quick text, and to log all my workouts.

For more tips, check out this popular blog post I wrote about the Apple Watch

Note, I still have the Series 2 without cellular and have no desire to upgrade until it dies.

2. Tile Style Key Finder

After spending 10 minutes looking for my keys last year, only to find them in the hood of her coat that she was wearing–don’t ask–I purchased the Tile.

How does it work? Download the app to your smartphone and attach the tag to your keychain, purse, or anything else you want to keep tabs on.

The Tile Essentials pack above comes with slim Tiles and Tile stickers to slip into your wallet or attach to laptops, kindles, or anything of value. You can purchase the Tile key finder individually too. It’s compatible with Alexa.

Even better if you have an Apple Watch, you can use your watch to ping your phone and then use your phone to ping your keys, which I may or may not do at least five times per day.

Check out this cute floral Tile case.

3. Roomba

We have hardwood floors all over my house. I’ve had a Roomba since I added kids to the mix. I can’t live without it.

What could be better than the Roomba I already own? One that empties the dirt automatically into a vacuum bag for you. The new Roomba i7 + with automatic dirt disposal does just that. It also works with Wi-Fi and Alexa, allowing you to schedule your cleans.

If you don’t need the Wi-Fi capability or automatic dirt disposal, this Roomba is a great choice.

Also high on my list is the Braava, a robot mop!

4. Yeti Tumblers and Mugs

Most days, I’m either drinking cold coffee or reheating my coffee in the microwave. This Yeti insulated mug keeps your drinks either hot or cold for hours. Even at home, I use this and the tumbler daily.

5. Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer

While researching the expensive Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer , I came across the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer. I’ve been using it for over a year and it’s one of my favorite purchases ever.

Tip: dry your hair naturally or quickly get at the roots with a regular hair dryer first. It gets hot. I use a heat protectant and my hair has remained in great condition.

6. Dyson Air Wrap

If you’re looking for a splurge item, consider the Dyson Air Wrap. Yes, it’s pricey. But for someone who gets a ton of blowouts, this makes a great gift.

They rarely if ever go on sale so if you’re looking to save, check out this blog post on 13 Ways to Save on a Dyson AirWrap.

It comes with a ton of attachments to take your hair from wet to styled.

If you’re looking for a less expensive alternative, I bought the Chi Spin N Curl. There’s definitely a learning curve but once you get it, it really does make curling your hair easy. Bonus, it doesn’t get hot.

By definition, the Hot Mess Moms runs around all day long, trying to get it all done. Fact: Hot Mess Moms don’t wash their hair every day. Hot Mess Moms may even workout without shampooing their hair afterward (gasp).

If you do this, you need dry shampoo. I love this one: Living Proof Dry Shampoo. Whenever I use this dry shampoo, my daughter tells me that I smell nice.

Another time-saver beauty product for moms from the same line is Living Proof In-Shower Styler which helps my hair to air dry into manageable waves rather than frizz.

7. Hair Tie Bracelet

I have this exact hair tie bracelet in rose gold by Maria Shireen. If you’re a Peloton fan, they carry it in their boutique.

Hot Mess Moms sport messy buns. They don’t always start off the day with a messy bun. If they’re like me, their accessory of choice is a hairband around the wrist. Not always the best look. This ingenious bracelet holds your hairband but looks like a beautiful gold or silver bracelet.

8. Instant Pot and Air Fryer Combo

Don’t want two more gadgets in your kitchen?
Both Instant Pot and Ninja have created a two-in-one instant pot and air fryer combo.

Instant Pot

I use my Instant Pot at least two times per week. In fact, I’m making six hardboiled eggs right now!

The Instant Pot can seem overwhelming but once you realize how much time it can save you in the kitchen, you’ll regret not getting sooner.

Still not convinced? Check out my blog post, Don’t Let the Instant Pot Scare You for tips and some of my favorite recipes.

Air Fryer

I held off getting the air fryer for a long time. Would I actually use it? I purchased the Air Fryer by Ninja on Amazon Prime Day, prepared to return it.

You know what? I use it at least 5 times per week.

For my kids, I heat up frozen french fries, tater tots, chicken nuggets, and every other easy kid-meal you can think of in minutes. It comes out crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. My kids love roasted potatoes. All I do is dump in the potatoes, add the tiniest bit of oil, and cook for a few minutes.

For me, I dehydrate fruits and air fry veggies and tofu. I never really like home-cooked tofu before I got the air fryer.

Afterward, toss the air fryer canister in the dishwasher.

9. Ugg Indoor Outdoor Slipper

I live in my Ugg Dakota slippers. I seriously never take them off.

These slippers can be worn inside or out, which is perfect for the Hot Mess Mom who may accidentally wear her slippers to the bus stop or to the supermarket . . . so, I’ve heard. Wink, wink.

10. Barefoot Dreams Cardigan

Barefoot Dreams makes the coziest cardigans, blankets, ponchos and lounge pants. It’s basically like wearing a blanket with style. And what Hot Mess Mom doesn’t want to wrap herself in a blanket?

This is one of the hottest holiday gifts every season.
