Favorite Products for Peloton Workouts

I wrote a post a while back about must-have Peloton accessories. While not all of the products mentioned in this new article are absolutely necessary, they are certainly my favorites.

Note: Most of these products are made by third parties and are not affiliated with Peloton. I have used most of these products for at least a year. They all have improved my workouts in some way.

Peloton Accessories You Didn’t Know You Needed

1. The Pivot

Peloton bike with TFD Pivot swivel screen

Without a doubt, this is my number one favorite Peloton accessory. If you have the original Peloton Bike, as I do, you know that the screen does not swivel like the Bike Plus.

The Pivot enables your bike’s touchscreen to swivel 360 degrees. This changed everything for me. It makes taking a Peloton bootcamp seamless as you can do the off-bike workouts right next to the bike and jump back on again.

I do strength classes, yoga, and meditation off the bike. I don’t need an extra TV or to remember to bring my iPad or phone down to my basement gym.

2. Apple Watch

Finally, in 2022, Peloton added the Apple Watch integration to all of its platforms: the app, Bike, Tread, Guide, and Rower.

I decided to upgrade my Series 2 Watch to a Series 7. I did this because Apple will no longer provide iOs updates or support for older watches. Secondly, Peloton requires the newest updates and that means that any watch older than a Series 3 will no longer work.

Prior to this, I had used the Scosche, Peloton chest strap, and later its armband, and the WatchLink.

Out of all of these, I had the least issues with the Scosche. I found the rechargeable Peloton heart rate monitor frustrating to charge. It did not easily plug into the port on my bike screen so I would charge it when I remembered with my laptop. The WatchLink worked fine.

My Apple Watch works perfectly. You have to initially set it up on your equipment. I usually press start the workout on my watch first using the Apple app, but honestly, most times, I don’t have to do that.

Plus, my watch is always on my wrist, charged, and ready to go. If you’ve been wondering whether you should get an Apple Watch (besides the motivation to close your daily rings), you’ll love using it with Peloton.

3. SPD Pedals

Since I’ve owned my Peloton bike, I’ve used SPD pedals. And before that, I used it with my spin bike from Amazon.

There are many reasons to use SPD shoes rather than Look Delta cleats that Peloton uses on its shoes. It’s much easier to unclip. Trust me, I’ve clipped in at the Peloton studio, at Soul Cycle, and on friends’ Peloton bikes. I never have to leave my shoes attached to my bike. It’s that easy.

Secondly, you may already own SPD shoes. Perhaps you’re an outdoor cyclist or belonged to a spin studio that used SPD cleats (it’s much more popular than Look Delta).

Third, most SPD shoes have the cleat recessed so you won’t damage your floors if you need to walk with them on. I don’t know about you but I’ve had to hop off the bike for many reasons: a forgotten water bottle, a ringing doorbell, or a screaming kid.

4. Peloton Guide

I ordered the Peloton Guide when it first came out and wrote my initial thoughts on it here in this review. You do need an All-Access Membership to use the Guide and you need a TV.

No Peloton Needed: Attach to Any TV

The Guide will track both your movements and count your reps (since its newest update). The Guide has some of the best Peloton Strength Programs (they come to the Guide first) including Arms with Tunde, Floor Bootcamp, and Splits.

You can also view all of Peloton’s other workouts on the Guide too if you were looking for an easy way to stream Peloton classes.

5. Workout Mat

By now you probably realize, Peloton is more than a bike. Some of my favorite workouts take place on the mat.

I’ve had this yoga mat for at least a decade and it still looks great, despite my dogs scratching it and laying on it.

When traveling, I always bring this foldable yoga mat with me. It helps me keep up my Peloton streak as I can do strength training, stretches, and yoga from anywhere.

When using the Peloton Guide, I use the official Peloton mat. It’s heavy-duty (and heavy to carry). It’s reversible, with one side red for yoga, and the other side black for strength. It has great grip and I really like it for strength training.

6. Hidrate Spark

While not specific to the Peloton, my favorite water-tracking bottle is the Hidrate Spark. I have the older silicone version for which you need to replace the lithium batteries. This new version is rechargeable via USB. You can read more about Hidrate Spark here in this blog post.

If you’re looking for a less expensive version that counts your bottles, not each sip check the Hidrate TAP.

7. Handlebar Extender

I’m pretty average in height, 5’5″ but I know my form on the bike isn’t always perfect. This handlebar extender is great for any petite riders or anyone who wants to improve their reach. It helps my back and shoulders stay more relaxed.

Final Thoughts

This blog post doesn’t include my recommendation on weights, towels, and other must-have accessories. You can find all that information here.

I’ve been using the Peloton for a long time and the workouts continue to evolve. You can get a full-body workout with one membership. Hopefully, this article gave you some ideas of what you need and how you can improve on your Peloton experience.
