25 Peloton Workouts You May Not Know Exist

Many of us associate Peloton with a spin bike. I find myself constantly telling friends and family that a Peloton membership gives you access to more than just spin classes. You get access to a slew of classes including strength, yoga, treadmill classes, and more.

For the first two years of my Peloton experience, I never took a class besides spin. OK, maybe I added in a light arms and weights class after my spin class but that was it.

Now, I’m trying to actually do less cardio and more strength classes, which I think is important now that I’m well into my 40’s.

If you’re new to Peloton or just haven’t searched around the app in a while, you may be surprised to learn about some of these classes. Here are 25 classes you may not realize exist.

25 Peloton Classes You May Be Missing Out On:

1. Peloton Boxing

It’s here. After much teasing, ever since Kendall Toole joined the Peloton family, Peloton launched a boxing program in December 2021. Taught by Kendall, Rad Lopez, and Selena Samuela, you can find 14 shadowboxing classes.

Sam Yo, Olivia Amato, and Bradley Rose all have boxing experience. If this program takes off, perhaps Peloton will add these classes as a permanent category in the app and maybe even add some equipment.

DribbleUp has a smart boxing program with interactive gloves. You can check out my review here.

Where do you find the boxing classes?

Find these classes under Programs on the top of your app or on your Peloton Bike or Tread. Week 1, take 5 classes over 5 days, followed by 9 classes over 3 days in Week 2 (each has a warm-up and stretch after).

They also added a Peloton Bootcamp in spring of 2022.

2. Outdoor Walks

My son laughs at me because every time we go for a walk, even to take the dogs out, I put on an outdoor Peloton walk class. These classes are audio only with great playlists so they’re nice to play even in the background. The instructors give you direction, bringing you at higher intensities and speeds, but you never break into a run.

I have an Apple Watch and love the integration with the Peloton app to track my distance, time, and more.

Where do you find the outdoor walks?

You don’t find them under “Walks.” Those are treadmill-specific classes. You find them under “Outdoor” in the app. Then click on “Filter” where you can sort by “Class Type.” Choose “Walking.”

Use the filter to find the right outdoor walk for you

You can further filter by length, ranging from 10 minutes to 60 minutes. You can also filter by instructor (most of the Tread instructors), music, difficulty (beginner, intermediate, or advanced) and sort by newest, trending, popular, top-rated, easiest, or hardest.

There are currently under 100 classes but these classes are pretty popular and we expect Peloton to add more to the app.

3. Standing Core Classes

Where do you find the standing core classes?

There’s no great way to find these classes. They’re almost exclusively taught by Rebecca Kennedy although Becs Gentry has a few for runners.

The best way to find these classes is to search the app under “Strength.: Then filter to “Core.” I do a further filter and limit classes to Rebecca Kennedy. If you choose an image of her where she is standing, you have a chance of getting to a standing core class but there’s no guarantee.

These classes really target your obliques. Former NFL cheerleader Rebecca Kennedy makes it look so easy but I find myself feeling uncoordinated doing the moves. She sometimes adds a light weight to make it even more challenging.

One thing is for certain. You will be sore the next day.

If you want to work on your core, I also recommend trying out the barre or Pilates classes.

TIP: If you don’t want to stare at your phone, TV, or other device to take classes off the bike, check out the Pivot by Top Form Design. I have it and it’s one of the best things I’ve bought. It enables your original Peloton bike screen to swivel.

4. Chair Yoga

When I sprained my ankle a few months ago, I started looking through the app to find classes I could do sitting. That’s when I found Chair Yoga. I had no idea they existed. Any chair works.

And if you do have decreased mobility, an injury, or illness, these classes are perfect for keeping your Peloton streak going.

Where do you find the chair yoga classes?

In the app, click on “Yoga” and then filter by class type to “Yoga Anywhere.” There you will find standing yoga classes, chair yoga, and even desk yoga classes (more on that below).

These Peloton Chair Yoga classes are done either sitting in a chair or using the chair for support. Instructors Aditi Shah, Kirra Michel, Kristin McGee, Chelsea Jackson Roberts, Nico Sirani (German), Mariana Fernandez (Spanish), Anna Greenberg, Ross Rayburn, and even Denis Morton teach the Chair Yoga classes.

5. Desk Yoga

With many of us now working from home, and no clear separation of the office and our household duties, we may need a break at our desks. Not only do these classes stretch you out, but they also relieve stress.

Where do you find the desk yoga classes?

If you filtered above and found Yoga Anywhere, you also should see some Desk Yoga classes.

There are fewer desk yoga classes than chair yoga. Instructors Ross Rayburn, Aditi Shah, Anna Greenberg, Kristin McGee. Like the chair yoga classes, these range from just five to ten minutes.

6. Foam Rolling Classes

Most of the Peloton instructors encourage foam rolling, and for good reason. Foam rolling releases tension in your muscles and could decrease your recovery time. Many people foam roll on their rest days or after a particularly intense workout.

This is a great beginner foam roller. Get the longest size. You can also get one with ridges. This is the one I have.

If you’re looking for a vibrating foam roller, this one is a great buy. I also highly recommend getting a massage gun for sore muscles. If you’re looking for a less expensive massage gun, check this one out.

Where do you find the foam rolling classes?

You can find the foam rolling classes under “Stretching” in the app. Then filter to “lower body.” If you further narrow your search down by instructor, you will find the classes. Hannah Corbin teaches foam rolling.

You can also find these classes under its own section in “Collections.”

7. Classes for the Blind on the Bike

The Official Peloton Member Facebook Page is full of inspiring member stories. One rider in particular really stood out to me when he thanked Peloton for making classes accessible to the blind community. Until then, I had no idea that these classes existed.

What Peloton offers a Talkback Screenreader feature which periodically announces your cadence, output, and resistance. You can read more about one member’s experience here.

There’s no such feature yet for the Tread.

There’s even a Facebook group for blind and visually impaired riders.

8. Classes of Hearing Impaired Riders

In September 2021, Peloton added subtitles to live classes, making all their classes including on-demand accessible to deaf and hearing impaired riders.

Although I don’t have trouble hearing, I love this feature myself.

If you want to turn off closed captioning, here’s how.

NOTE: Peloton hired its first Adaptive Training Consultant and future instructor, Logan Aldridge, an accomplished amputee athlete who can deadlift 500 pounds.

9. Prenatal and Postnatal Classes

Robin Arzon is the first Peloton instructor to share her infertility journey, pregnancy news, and show off her baby girl Athena with the Peloton community. She did the last two on the bike and you can find those classes here.

It’s only natural that she now teaches both postnatal and prenatal classes for Peloton.

Christine D’Ercole, Jenn Sherman, and Kristin McGee are also mothers. With all the Peloton engagements and weddings (Christine, Ally Love, Leanne Hainsby to Ben Alldis), it’s only a matter of time before there’s another Peloton baby.

Where can you find the prenatal and postnatal classes?

Strength

Under “Strength” in the app, you can find, prenatal and postnatal classes. The latter focuses heavily on rebuilding your core strength.

You can find Robin’s pre and postnatal classes also under “Collections.”

Yoga

Both Anna Greenberg and Kristin McGee (the latter a mother of twin boys) teach prenatal and postnatal yoga classes. You can find those by filtering through under “Yoga” in the app. It’s also where you’ll find kids and tweens yoga flows.

You can also find the pre and postnatal yoga classes under “Collections.”

10. Dance Cardio

With so many instructors being former professional dancers, it’s no surprise Peloton recently added more dance classes to their schedule. They even had one featuring Usher dancing along to his music with Ally Love and Emma Lovewell.

Where can you find the dance cardio classes?

Under “Cardio,” filter through until you see “Dance Cardio.” You can also find them under “Collections” in either the bike or app.

There are currently less than 20 classes available with most of them added only in Fall 2021. Classes range from beginner to advanced. I’ve never gone beyond the intermediate level. It’s a good workout, definitely a sweat fest.

Expect Peloton to add more classes, maybe with more artist collaborations.

If you’re a fan of Zumba or just want to have some fun, try a class out, and you can really dance like no one is watching (because they’re not).

11. Family Classes

When we all found ourselves working and learning from home, Peloton added a ton of family classes. Jess Sims, a former teacher and school principal teaches many of them.

Kristin McGee teaches most of the family yoga classes.

TIP: You can find both the family yoga and family yoga classes under “Collections” (Family: Cross Training)

Where can you find the family cardio classes?

Or, search under “Cardio,” and click on “Family.” There are currently about 30 classes in the library. Classes range from 5 to 30-minutes. You can also find kids yoga as mentioned above.

Where can you find the family yoga classes?

You can find these yoga classes under collections or just search for “Yoga” and choose “Family.”

12. Disney Classes

Speaking of kids or kids at heart (like Cody Rigsby who sports a Mickey tattoo), over the last two years Peloton added a bunch of Disney classes. There’s even been talk of Disney acquiring Peloton. In the summer of 2021, Peloton joined forces with Spotify and released exclusive content called “Spotify Disney Hits” classes.

If you have a Peloton Bike or Peloton Tread, simply type the word “Disney” into the search bar. Otherwise, you can find many of the Disney spin classes here and a full list of all classes here.

13. Resistance Bands Classes

Peloton added a bunch of resistance bands classes in 2021. Now, if only they would add TRX. You can read more about the resistance bands I have here. Make sure you get ones with handles.

set of resistance bands and travel bag

If you want resistance bands that have labeled resistance weights from 5 to 25-pounds (instead of just color-coding), these are great.

Where can you find the resistance bands classes?

Go into the “Strength” or “Collections” sections. There you will find the resistance bands classes, along with barre and Pilates. Did you know Peloton has those too? Resistance bands classes range from 5 to 20-minutes.

14. Stretches

Peloton’s stretch classes are not limited to those before and after rides and runs, although you can filter by pre and post-ride or pre and post-run stretches.

Although I always do both a pre and post-run stretch, I never stretch before or after rides. Don’t do as I do. Stretches are an important part of recovery.

Where can you find the stretches?

It’s easy to find stretches. They have their own section. They range from 5 to 20-minutes.

15. Heart Rate Zone Runs

Although many of you may be familiar with the FTP test and the power zone rides on Peloton, you may not realize that Peloton also offers heart rate zone runs.

The goal is to keep your heart rate in specific ranges to build resistance and keep you at low impact. Becs Gentry (an Olympics hopeful) and Jess Sims teach most of these classes.

Where can you find the heart rate zone runs?

Simply go into the “Running” section of the app and filter to “heart rate zone” classes. There are only 20 classes as of today, and only one 30-minute run. The rest are 45 to 60-minute classes.

TIP: to find out how to use any treadmill with the Peloton app and which heart rate monitor to use, check out this post.

This is the treadmill I own, the Horizon 7.0 AT. You can click the image above to check it out.

16. Foreign Language Classes

In 2019, Peloton hired its first German spin instructors and in 2021, they hired their first Spanish speaking spin instructor, Camila Ramon. Soon after, they hired Mariana Fernandez who teaches yoga in Spanish.

If you don’t speak either of these languages, enable closed captioning and you can try them out.

17. Broadway Classes

Peloton Broadway classes are some of the most popular classes. Only recently, did Peloton start an official Broadway series, featuring music from shows like Hamilton and In the Heights.

Where can you find the Broadway classes?

Similar to the Disney classes, if you have a Peloton bike or Tread, you can simply do a search in the search bar for Broadwary rides.

But the easiest way to find all these classes is to search the app under “Collections” and choose “Broadway Series.” You’ll find rides, runs, strength, barre, and yoga classes.

You can also find many of them here in this post.

18. Classical Music Classes

Both Christine and Bradley Rose have taught multiple classical music classes.

Where can you find the classical music classes?

If you have the bike or treadmill, do a search for classical music. (I don’t have a class list yet for this but it’s in the works). There’s really no other easy way other than to search classes by the instructors mentioned above.

There is no search for classical music under “music type” in the app but I suspect they’ll add it one day.

19. No Equipment Needed Classes

Honestly, Peloton has added such a variety of classes lately, that I believe you don’t need fancy equipment to get a good workout.

When I travel, I always do the outdoor runs and walks, core classes, and sometimes yoga. Depending on the trip, I bring along weights too.

If you plan on doing yoga while away, consider getting this foldable mat, which I didn’t even know was a thing until recently.

foldable travel Gaiam yoga mat

Where can you find the no equipment needed classes?

You can find these classes in two places:

  • In Collections, there’s a section titled “Equipment Free Classes”
  • In Collections, there’s a section titled “Made for Travel”

I’m not sure if either section is completely up to date. But you can always do a search under “Strength” for bodyweight and core classes.

Even if you don’t have a Peloton bike or treadmill, you can take classes on other equipment like an elliptical.

20. ProCyclist Classes

There hasn’t been a new class in a while, since March 2020, but former professional athlete Christian Vande Velde sometimes teaches. I’ve taken a few of his classes but it’s refreshing to try out an instructor with a different style.

Will he be back? Time will only tell.

Where can you find the procyclist classes?

Simply filter classes by spin instructors. They’re listed alphabetically and Vande Velde is last on the list.

21. Hiking Classes

Meant for the treadmill, Peloton has a ton of hiking classes. These may be my favorite classes to take on my treadmill. It’s basically a series of inclines and declines at moderate speed. I get a great workout.

Lately, I like to lower the volume all the way down so I can’t hear the music and follow along with the instructor’s cues via the closed captions as I watch a TV show.

You can’t take these classes outside because you need specified inclines throughout the class.

Peloton also added Hiking Bootcamps in spring of 2022.

Where can you find the hikes?

Search under “Walking” and you’ll find the hikes, along with all the other walks meant for the treadmill.

22. Just Ride, Just Run, or Scenic Classes

These classes are only available for the Peloton Bike or Tread. I should explain that further. If you have a Peloton bike, you have access to the Just Ride classes but not the Just Run classes, and vice versa.

Previously, there was a workaround to get access to the scenic classes but that ended just when I bought my non-Peloton treadmill. Bummer.

Just Ride and Just Run give you the metrics without any instruction or time limits. Just go as long and as fast as you want.

I never do the Just Ride classes but I have done the Scenic Rides. I lower the volume of the music, look at the scenery as I ride, an listen to either a podcast or audiobook.

Where can you find the Just Ride, Just Run, or Scenic Classes?

Not available on the app, you will find these classes under the “More” section of your Bike or Tread.

Save for later!

23. “Running Skills” and “You Can Run” Classes

My son started cross-country this year. I was excited to introduce him to the running skills classes. Unfortunately, there are only 4 of them: pace, cadence, form, and skips.

But “You Can Run” is an entire program dedicated to teaching new runners how to run. It’s eight weeks of training, two days per week, with the goal to run sustainably for 30-minutes.

Where can you find the “Running Skills” and “You Can Run” classes?

You can find the “Running Skills” classes under “Running” in the app or Tread. Filter by class type and the first on the list is running skills.

You can find the “You Can Run” classes in “Programs” on the Tread or app (on top, next to “Collections.” Scroll down until you see two versions of the “You Can Run” program:

  • You Can Run (treadmill)
  • You Can Run (outdoors)

Both contain 16 classes to be taken over 8 weeks. However, if you miss a week, you cannot go back. However, PeloBuddy has a workaround with all the classes listed.

24. Marathon and 5K Training

Peloton recently added both marathon and 5K training programs.

“The Road to Your 5K” is a 6-week training program, where you run 5 days per week over 6 weeks.

“The Road to Your 26.2” has 3 parts, labeled aptly, parts 1, 2, and 3. In this program, you train 6 days per week over 6 weeks.

Where do you find the “Road to Your 5K” and “Road to Your 26.2” Classes?

You can find all of these under Programs in either the App or on the Tread.

However, like the “You Can Run” classes and any other Peloton program, if you miss a class, you cannot go back to retake it. Maybe they will change this in the future but that’s how it is right now.

25. Sleep Meditation

Did you know that if you take a mediation class, it counts towards your Peloton streak?

While many of you know by now that Peloton offers meditation, including sleep meditation classes (both video and audio), you may be surprised to learn that they also have a “Power of Sleep” program to retrain your brain and body to get better sleep over the course of two weeks, 15 classes, 7 days per week.

Where can you find the “Power of Sleep” program?

Look under Programs in the app and you will find it there.

Final Thoughts

Peloton has come a long way from their early days. When I first started with the app, I didn’t even know how to pronounce Peloton. They did no advertising and they only offered spin classes. Check out this throwback video, my first on Youtube below. (And shameless plug: I’ve ignored my YouTube for years but I’m spending a lot of time there so please subscribe).

Now, I tell everyone, even if you don’t ever want to get their bike or treadmill, try out the app. It’s the best fitness program I’ve ever tried, and I’ve tried tons.

I can only believe the company will continue to evolve. They’re entering the fitness gaming world with Lanebreak and trying to compete with the Mirror and Tempo with the introduction of their Guide. And they just introduced the Peloton Row.

Still, after all these years, Peloton continues to surprise me. Did I leave anything out? Shout out below.
